Samantha Wildman headed towards sickbay. She had heard from Kathryn what had happened to Garak and that Naomi was okay. Samantha knew that the kids would be in sickbay wanting to know how Garak was doing and getting on the Doctor's nerves. So she decided that it was a good idea if she looked after them while Kathryn dealt with the situation.

As she walked into sickbay, she was faced with the Doctor working on Garak with Tom assisting and Kathryn holding both Naomi and Kol, telling them that everything would be all right.

Samantha walked over to Kathryn and the kids, Naomi rushed over to her mother when she saw Samantha approach.

Kathryn looked at Samantha and silently said thank you for coming. Samantha asked, "How's he doing?"

"I'm not sure at the moment, the Doctor hasn't stopped working on Garak since I got here," said Kathryn. Then looking at the kids she continued, "But I'm sure that he will pull through."

"I'm sure he will. I happen to know that everyone is hoping the same thing," said Samantha. Samantha then looked at the kids and said, "Okay, I think that it's time that we go, Kol and Naomi. Uncle Neelix has prepared something special for you."

Kol looked at his mother and said, "I don't want to go, Mum."

"I'm sorry Kol, but I think that it would be the best thing that you could do for Uncle Garak at the moment. You don't want him to feel guilty about you staying here all night, do you? I will let you know when he awakes, I promise," said Kathryn.

Kol's face showed that he wasn't happy with the decision but followed Samantha and Naomi out of the sickbay after giving his mother a hug. Kathryn again thanked Samantha, to which Samantha replied it was her pleasure.

Michelle walked into sickbay and looked at the Doctor still working on Garak. Up to that moment, Michelle hadn't realized just what had happened and that they could lose Garak. This realization stunned her for a moment.

Kathryn saw the emotions that flitted across Michelle's face and realized that her thoughts were correct. She walked up to Michelle and said, "I'm sure he'll be okay. Soon he will be telling you to stop working so hard and telling me to stop drinking so much coffee."

Michelle smiled at the comment. At that moment the Doctor walked over to them and said, "Well, I've repaired all the injuries and he will recover in time. I have to say, who ever did this to him really wanted him dead. He was lucky that you got him out of there when you did. I'm not sure I would have been able to save him if he stayed there much longer!"

"How long will it be till we can talk to him, Doctor?" asked Kathryn.

"I would like him to continue sleeping till morning and take it from there," said the Doctor.

"Okay, keep us posted. I will have Turvok organize guards outside and one in here till we find out who did this is and can catch them," said Michelle.

"I will also keep an eye on him," said the Doctor. He then move towards Tom who had called him over to discuss something.

Michelle turned to Kathryn and said, "I suggest that we go and see how Turvok is doing with the investigations."

News of the attempt on Garak's life had spread around Voyager within about 30 minutes of the incident. The crew's reaction was one of disbelief. Garak was not the most popular member of the crew but people were feeling more comfortable around him. They had watched the way Garak was protective of Kol and Kathryn and the love he had for them both. For everyone, this was a good indication of the type of person he was.

Offers of help were constantly pouring in from all over the ship to the Doctor, the investigation team and to Kathryn for looking after Kol, while Garak was in sickbay.

The investigation revealed that the person who made the attempt on Garak's life had covered up any trail that might have been left behind. This meant that they would have to wait till Garak awoke and was able to tell them who it was.

Neither Kathryn or Michelle left Garak's bedside all night. They each felt that they were supporting the other but really they wanted to make sure that Garak knew he wasn't alone, they both cared for him but on different levels. One as a friend, the other as something more but yet to be recognized.

When Tuvok and Chakotay walked into the sickbay the next morning, they saw both Kathryn and Michelle asleep sitting next to the biobed that Garak was on.

Chakotay gently shook Michelle to wake her, the moment also waking Kathryn.

"Report," said Michelle.

"The investigation into the incident that was carried out last night revealed no clues as to who is the attacker. Whoever it was had covered their tracks," said Chakotay.

"I suggest we ask the Doctor as to whether Garak can be woken up and see if he can tell us who the person is," said Tuvok.

"Agreed. Computer, activate the EMH," said Michelle.

The Doctor appeared in the sickbay and said, "Please state the nature of the medical emergency."

"Doctor, would it be possible for you to wake Garak so that we could question him about the incident yesterday?" asked Michelle.

The Doctor walked over to Garak and checked on his patient's vital signs. Once that was completed he turned towards the group and said, "I believe so, Mr Garak has improved nicely over night. But I recommend that you take it easy. His injuries were fairly substantial. I don't want him to overtired or become to stressed."

"Understood Doctor, thank you." said Michelle.

The Doctor gave Garak an injection to wake him, he stood over Garak, speaking to him in a hushed voice, "Mr Garak. I have the Captain here. She would like to ask you a few questions about what happened yesterday."

Garak slowly opened his eyes and looked at Michelle and said, "You look like you haven't slept, Michelle."

Michelle sighed and said, "Garak, I'm fine. What you should be more concerned with is finding out who made the attempt on your life yesterday. Did you by any chance see who it was?"

"It was Seska!" said Garak.

"Seska! That's impossible!" said Chakotay. The thought that his ex-lover was in fact a Cardassian spy was an unsettling thought.

"I'm sorry Commander, but Seska was a former student of mine. She's Cardassian, a member of the Obsidian Order," said Garak.

"But she's Bajoran!" said the Doctor, "her medical files would have shown that she was Cardassian."

"Doctor, I suggest that you check you medical files and see if Seska's blood workup is the same as another member of this crew," said Kathryn. "Starfleet has found that several of the Cardassian spies would use another person's files as their own." The Doctor walked over to his workstation and started the search that Kathryn suggested.

Chakotay turned towards Kathryn and said, "I'm sure that you have read the Captain's logs of the first five years that we have been out here and would know that we had already discover the Cardassian spy."

"Yes Commander, I am well aware of that. But if Garak says that Seska is Cardassian then I believe him."

"Captain, if Seska is the person, how do you want to proceed?" said Turvok, trying to eliminate the potential outburst from Kathryn and Chakotay, with regards to this issue.

"I'm open for suggestions," said Michelle.

"Well you have the best 'bait' you could ask," said Garak.

Michelle understood what Garak was saying and said, "Garak, I would prefer not to put you in any further danger."

"Michelle, you have no choice. Beside the decision is mine and I'm willing to do it," said Garak.

At the moment the computer signaled that it had finished its search and that there was indeed another member of the crew with the same blood workup as Seska.

"Well, people it looks like we need to work out a plan to catch Seska and find out if she is who Garak says," said Michelle.

"Captain, since Garak is willing to be 'bait' as he put it, I have an idea," said Chakotay.
